I Guess Since It’s Friday…: Here’s ten things I love this week

1. Supreme Beings of Leisure “Get Away” My official song of the week. It’s the only thing that has managed to get that Alice in Wonderland Painting the Roses Red song out of my head.

2. Video Stores I know Netflix is cheaper and more convenient but there’s still something to be said for the spontaneous and hands on experience of the good old independent video store. Plus the always entertaining customer/clerk verbal exchange: “Have you seen this one? It’s really good. Well, not really but Matthew McConaughey has his shirt off for no reason for at least half of the movie! Oh, and these’ll be due back on Wednesday.”

3. Chex Mix Sweet ‘n’ Salty Honey Nut variety Just had these for the first time this week. I like the snacks that accomplish both sweetness and saltiness simultaneously.

4. A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore. Because this author is just so weird.

5. Dear Frankie It’s an endearing Scottish film with Gerard Butler. Enough said.

6. This T-shirt!

7. The Book of Useless Information by Noel Botham and The Useless Information Society. If you bring a raccoon’s head to the Henniker, N.H., town hall, you are entitled to receive $10 from the town. I know what I’m doing this weekend!

8. Watching Snakes on a Plane with my coworkers. I live for surreal moments like this where the boundary between real life and dreams just seems to blend for a few hours.

9. Peanut Butter Puffins Who says cereal isn’t a dinner food?

10. That magical 30 minutes of the day when I am home and Buster is asleep.

There was lots to hate this week.: But there were ten things to love

Ten things I love this week.

1) The Delays “You See Colours”
A CD I picked up in London, it has been really excellent for copy editing to. It’s upbeat enough to keep me going without being oppressively jolly.

The mighty queen of redheads blogs about her adventures in New York! Why does the site look suspiciously similar to mine? Because she’s using Larry’s tool (content management system tool that is–Kenneth, get your mind out of the gutter).

2) Berry Burst Cheerios
I really like the strawberry banana kind. Even though I know it sounds disgusting it really isn’t and when the weather is in the 90s I don’t feel like eating much more than cereal anyway.

4) The Doctor Who 2006 season finale
Sure it felt like having my heart ripped still-beating from my chest and thrown to a pack of rabid wolverines. Yes, it left a huge chunk of fans feeling dazed and depressed. But my oh my, such good entertainment!

5) Don’t Hassle the Hoff
Hasslehoff is back, this time with “Jump in my Car,” a song aimed at launching his musical career in Australia. You have to watch the whole video to be really sure, but yes, he is laughing at himself.

6) Hitler Cats
As Erin put it: “My cats already sort of scare me, and they don’t look anything like Hitler.”

7) Pet Shop Boys “Fundamental”
Love it. Absolutely love it. And how could you not love an album with a song called “The Sodom and Gomorrah Show”?

OK, so it is pretty depressing, but fascinating all the same.

9) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
The best movie I’ve ever seen? No. But good clean summer fun and so very full of eye candy you barely notice the plot holes. You’ve got Johnny Depp being as outrageous as ever, and of course there’s Keira and Orlando for those of you that like that sort of thing. But I was pretty much all about what I like to call the “New and Improved Scruffy Commodore Norrington Hotness” (or just “the Norrington Hotness” for short).

10) The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents
One of the gazillion books written by Terry Pratchett, this won a Carnegie Award for Children’s Literature and doesn’t really feel like a children’s book at all. ]

Ten Things I Love On YouTube: Watch them. Watch them ALL.

1. Where the Hell is Matt?

2. The most unfortunate commercial ever (I actually found this years ago on an old tape of Christmas movies taped off TV in the ’80s)

3. The confession scene from the BBC3 Casanova

4. Mount St. Helens erupting

5. Mr. T says Treat Your Mother Right! I want to add that Helen’s comment after having seen this was, and I quote, “Dude, Mr. T looked pretty hot in those shorts–I was into it!”

6. No one ever believes me when I describe this cartoon–finally I have proof! Nice to know I didn’t just make it up.

7. I Want My MTV! (Yeah, and I want my MTV to play music videos
but we can’t have everything now can we?)

8. Stephen Colbert mocking the FOX “news” claim that same-sex marriage will
lead to people marrying animals

9. This is another in the ‘Whenever I mention it (or rather, sing it) people look at me like I’ve gone nuts’ category

10. The most awesome of the ten music videos Erin and I kept seeing in Guatemala!

And a bonus: Oh. Wow. So it wasn’t my imagination then, the ’80s really were
just completely amazing. ]
